Pictures & Quotations
|
We find the
right picture can really increase the power of a quotation. We
have been experimenting with adding famous quotations
to some of our pictures. You can see the results
here. |

desert Pictures
Finding good deserts to photograph is easy for us. Since
we live in New Mexico all we have to do is drive south and
west. Desert is a relitive term; technically speaking
Albuquerque is in the short grass prairre zone, but if you
are visiting from the east it looks like desert.
As you drive south toward El Paso the elevation drops and
the land gets more arid. Lots of creasote bush (Larria
tridentata) appears and conditons get very harsh. This
is Chiuhauian desert and does NOT have Saguaro cacti. We
find it really annoying to see these cacti frequently used
to illustrate advertisements for New Mexico businesses.
Saguar cacti can not survive freezing temperatures. That
means they can only live in the Sonoran desert which is in
Arizona.
Walking Rain Gallery
This website displays only a few of our collection of desert
pictures. At Walking Rain Gallery we have more, as
well as many pictures of other subjects. Clicking
links on this site will take you to the desert category
of Walking
Rain Gallery. Once
there you can see all of our desert pictures and order
whatever pictures and/or products you would like. We
invite you to look around and see what we have in other categories
while you are there.
About us and our desert pictures
We enjoy photography and use the income from sales of our
pictures and products to finance more travel and photography. However,
we find the rights management conditions required by stock
photo companies unreasonable.
Our copyright and digital rights management is very simple:
you can do anything you want with these images, including
using them for commercial products, except claim
you have a copyright to the original image. We retain
the right to use the images ourselves in any way we please. Fair
enough?
We have included images on the website which are not
large enough to print a 5" x
7" at
300 DPI. The download for those is free. We think
that is a good way to let customers test our shopping cart
and enjoy pictures which are to small for demanding uses.
Techniques & Technology I got my first camera (a Nikkormat) in 1965 and have been
taking pictures ever since. We took slides for many
years and then converted to film. We finally made the
move to digital and are still in the conversion process. This
and related sites are being built by converting our huge
collection of negatives to digital, editing them with Photoshop,
and building websites based on the pictures and our experiences
taking them. It's a lot of work so it will be a while
before these sites can be considered a finished project. We
think there is a lot to enjoy in the meantime through. |

Pictures & Proverbs
|
Proverbs are
strong, insightful statements which are still relevant
today. We like to combine pictures with a variety
of proverbs because the visual dimension can potentiate
the power of the written word. You can see our
work here. |
